Boys and Girls Recreational Gymnastics

Gymnastics is a great all round sport that develops numerous aspects of fitness such as balance, coordination, body awareness, strength, flexibility, and power. We believe that our recreational program provides children with a great introduction to this sport, and hope that it can build their passion for gymnastics. We are passionate about gymnastics and we hope that we can pass this onto all the children we coach.

Age Based, Skill Driven!

These levels are progressive and sequential which enables a smooth transition between each level of the program. It is expected that gymnasts will spend two years in each of the classes to ensure that they have gained exposure and confidence in a wide range of skills, and ensure that they are mixed with the appropriate age gymnasts.

Our gymnasts of all skill levels are included in our program and will be extended and applied by our experienced and creative coaching team.

Class

Description

Prep and Grade 1 – 1hr Class

This class is a bridge between our KinderGym class and our Recreational Program. Gymnasts typically spend 1 year in this class; however, some gymnasts benefit from 2 years. This class helps to teach the fundamental gymnastics movement patterns and transition into our Engaging and Fun Recreational Program. This class includes basic testing skills which incorporates the fundamental gymnastics shapes and movements, enabling them to develop their body awareness and coordination.

Grade 2 and 3 – 1hr Class

Within this class, gymnasts approximately aged between 7-9 will be engaged in a developmental and progressive curriculum, working on swings, balance, acrobatic elements and confidence. Gymnasts who continue through the recreation program at BTYC will progress through this class in 2 years, with assessment every 6 months, progressing from the testing skills in the Prep and Grade 1 class.

Grade 4 to 6 – 1.5hr Class

This class further builds upon the skills from the 1-hour classes. Gymnasts will be engaged with the extended skills of the curriculum, with the aim to be able to perform swinging skills, handstand skills, rolls and cartwheels successfully. Gymnasts will spend approximately 2 years in the 1.5-hour class, before joining our secondary classes.
